A total of 90 entries were made on day 1A of the $400,000 guaranteed Card Player Poker Tour event at The Venetian® Resort Las Vegas.

This $1,600 buy-in tournament features three starting flights, with 12.5% of the field making the money. For day 1A, that resulted in 12 players advancing to day 2, each being guaranteed at least a min-cash.

Each player started the tournament with 40,000 in chips, and the blind levels were set to 40 minutes. Late registration and re-entry were available through the start of level 13.

More than 13 hours after cards got in the air, the day concluded with the elimination of bracelet winner and World Poker Tour champion Tyler Patterson in 13th place. He ran pocket jacks into the pocket aces of Joe Kuether to bust on the bubble.

Qing Liu2021 WPT Venetian main event champion Qing Liu finished with the biggest stack overall, bagging up 612,000.

Liu surged into the lead in one of the final hands of the night, winning a big three-way all-in with pocket kings against the pocket tens of Loyal Sprague and pocket threes of bracelet winner Ryan Laplante. Liu had a bit of a sweat when a ten was the first card in the window, but a king soon followed to give him top set.

Liu has more than $2.9 million in career earnings, with more than $1.6 million of that coming from his many deep runs at The Venetian. His largest career score saw him defeat a field of 937 in the $5,000 buy-in WPT Venetian back in March of 2021.

Other big stacks include Ross Fabrizio (443,000), Josh Remitio (430,000), Donald Fulton (368,000), and Jessica Vierling (334,000). 2021 CPPT Venetian champion John Riordan bagged up 142,000 as he looks to secure a second title on this tour.

There was 37:24 remaining in level 18 (5,000-10,000 with a 10,000 big blind ante) when play concluded.

Tournament play continues with Day 1B beginning Friday at 11:10 AM. Day 2 will begin Sunday at 11:00 AM.
