The last few Bracelet events before the Mainby Josh Brikis | Published: Jul 04, '10 |
I really was excited to be able to play the $25k 6max. I have strong results both live and online in 6 max and I felt I should be playing this tourney regardless of how tough the field was. It was by far one of the toughest tables I have ever played at w Doc Sands, this guy Max and a few other young kids. Even though we started with 75k in chips the blinds started at 150/300 w antes…and antes always cause for alot of 3betting, 4betting etc…and I happen to also be the oldest at the table being 30 years old…every pot was huge…the structure early was not good and alot of people busted in the first few hours…including myself. I lost about 15k w AQ on a Q high board early and never seemed to make a pair or win a hand after that. The action was insane…cold 4 bet bluffs shown, huge pots…hard to get chips. I played a hand that is questionable at best in most situations and tournaments, however the way the table was playing, along w my image and the others images, I went with the hand and lost almost all my chips…There is no need to discuss it as it really only happened in the moment and is hard to justify in writing…then I tripled to 30 big blinds before losing a 60 BB pot to Doc Sands w AK to his JJ. I love this event and will continue to play it and all other 6 max events but this one didnt work out so well. Congrats to DJK…who looks like hes 12 but just a sicko…nice score!
I played the $1k and managed to get in a 7k pot in the 2nd level w 88 on a 776 board and got the guy to put all his chips in with 6c9c…just to see a 6 on the turn…gg $1k..nh sir.
The last bracelet event of the summer before the main and also Event #56 again which was good to me last year although a completely different tourney. This was the $2500 NL and I love the structure, since you get to start alot deeper. I was up and down at my first table on day one in the early levels…I lost w AA to K2 and was down to 2k. I managed to turn that 2k into a whopping 16k but that was at the end of day one…so I made it to Day 2 and there was about 575 left of the 1,950 entries. Day 2 went rather well most of the time as I doubled early and won a bunch of pots, working my stack to 75k before I tried my first check raise bluff of the day and that sent me backwards a little. I also took a beat w AJ to A5 for an 80k pot that woulda sent me to around 160k w 90 left. I made a few good calls that won me some nice pots as well. I flatted an early position raise in the BB w 99 and check called 2 streets on an Ace high board. Also another hand against a pretty aggro younger kid I called a river bet w a 4 card straight on the board w 1 pair. (I’m just a station lol) I played really well and got value out of all my hands and really was only upset w myself about 2 spots that I could of avoided. In poker you just have to be honest w yourself and admit to making mistakes so that you don’t do them again. The beats are gonna come and you are gonna get coolered and lose races…and they all are not fun…but they are also for the most part out of your control…you can however do something about things that are in your control. Anyway, I did get to bag chips again and make another day 3…which was today…I started with 124k at 4k/8k 1k…and there was 73 left to start today. An older guy at our table busted 2 guys in 5 minutes when he had QQ and AK and a few hands later I get TT on the button w 106k and shove and he just has QQ again and holds and I bust in 63rd place for $11k. Frustrating for sure but the hand plays itself, nothing I can do.
So that would be my 4th cash of the summer with around $90k in winnings. Alot of people are stuck, so I guess I can’t complain too much. I am really excited for the main event though…I am playing on Tuesday, Day 1b. The best structured tourney of the year…should be fun…I really hope I can draw a featured table this year…I’m lacking TV time…and it would be nice to get a 1-off deal for the extra $.
Well I was told by a few people I needed to get an updated blog…so there we have it…next one during the main event…I am headed out to party a little for the 4th tonight since I have barely been out.
Last thing..Congrats to Chris Bell and Gavin Smith…both friends that are just great guys and well deserved Bracelet winners!
