Credit: Mickey May.After a four-day battle in the heart of Dublin city, Joeri Zandvliet ended the blood bath by taking down his second UK & Ireland Poker Tour title. He topped a 718-strong field including a final table which featured former Dublin champ Max Silver.

The smiling Dutchman received €83,500 for his win, which can be added to his £63,200 first place prize from UKIPT Manchester in 2010. He has won two out of the six PokerStars UKIPT main events he has played. On top of that, this is also his third UKIPT final table as he finished in fourth place in Edinburgh last year.

Zandvliet now ties with Nick Abou Risk with two titles each to their names, that means a quarter of all UKIPT events since the Tour began have been won solely by these two players.

The other player hoping to join the double-title ranks with was Max Silver. The young Brit fell, not too far from the last hurdle, but in spectacular fashion. His five-bet bluff with 8Heart Suit 4Heart Suit was crushed by Zandvliet’s ADiamond Suit KDiamond Suit and he had to settle for fourth place this time around.

Nearing the top end of the €348,230 prize pool, things were still surprisingly friendly around the felt. The final hand eventually came when Zandvliet’s A-5 hit a 5 on the river versus Chuck Fabian and his A-9. The American-born Dublin resident received €49,600 for his runner-up finish.

After his win Zandvliet said, “It’s ridiculous to win a second time. It’s like a four day marathon…and then you win at some point.”
