2011 WSOP-C New Orleans Main Event Champ Jonathan Poche The 2012 World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s New Orleans series gets underway Thursday, May 10 and continues running until the 21.

The 12-event series will be the last Circuit stop of the 2011-12 season before the National Championship held at the WSOP at the Rio in Las Vegas on July 6.

The series features events with a variety of buy-ins and formats, with players able to vie for a gold ring for as little as $355 or step up the stakes and go after the $1,600 main event title. The series includes re-entry, pot-limit Omaha, six-max and turbo events, but the highlight of the whole affair will undeniably be the $1,600 main event.

A total of 382 players entered the main event in 2011, building a $550,080 prize pool. The lion’s share of that money went to eventual champion Jonathan Poche, who captured $121,017 and 912 Card Player Player of the Year points when he topped Robert Toye heads-up for the title.

Also at the final table was Matthew Waxman, whose eighth place finished played a part in his 13th place finish in the 2011 POY race.

The 2011 Circuit stop in New Orleans also played host to the $10,000 regional championship, an idea that was scrapped for the 2011-12 season. That event drew only 75 entrants and was won by Ayodeji Jejelowo for $235,956, That event also saw Matthew Waxman at the final table, this time finishing seventh.
