Sports Books Could Take Action On Many Pop Culture Events

A Nevada lawmaker is leading a push for legalizing betting on political elections as well as pop culture events such as the Academy Awards, Politico reported.

Tick Segerblom, a Democrat from Las Vegas, introduced a bill this week.

The highlight of the proposal is, arguably, allowing sports book to take action on the United States presidential election, a lucrative activity for overseas betting firms.

Nevada appears to be constantly looking at the business models of foreign gambling companies and the jurisdictions where they operate in order to not fall behind. In 2011, the state legalized online gambling. That industry will likely begin with online poker, but sports betting and other casino games will eventually hit the web as well.
