A woman in New York has rejected a plea deal for allegedly stealing a $25,000 chip from Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun in February. The deal called for a $5,000 fine and would have let her avoid a possible prison sentence.
The woman, 42-year-old Moira Canty, would have still had a felony conviction on her record, and that’s reportedly why she turned it down, according to a report from The Day of New London.
“You’d rather have a trial than take that?” the judge asked her.
“Yeah,” said the married mother of four who works as a nurse.
She could face up to 20 years in prison if her case goes to trial and she’s convicted.
Canty was arrested in February after she tried to cash the chip, which she allegedly stole from a fellow casino patron.
