The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Police have charged a police officer from nearby Rhode Island for allegedly assaulting an elderly casino worker earlier this month.

The Providence Journal reported that tribal police say 36-year-old Michael Tousignant, who was visiting Foxwoods Resort Casino with friends while off duty, was in the bathroom washing his hands when he caused facial injuries to a 73-year-old attendant because he thought the “water was too cold” for his hands.

“He said the water was too cold, and then he turned around and smacked the guy,” Tribal Police Chief William Dittman said.

Tousignant is said to have attempted leaving the casino but was arrested before he could. Upon arrest, he told tribal police that he is also a police officer.

The Associated Press reported that Tousignant has applied for a court program that would let him avoid a criminal conviction.

Foxwoods sits on the tribe’s land and is one of two casinos in the state.
