In this "Strip Poker" series, Card Player covers the Las Vegas poker scene - on The Strip and around the city.
The Binion's Casino in Downtown Las Vegas is proving once again that it knows how to run tournaments. The first-ever Binion's Poker Open began yesterday with great success, as it caters to players looking for low buy-in events with big prize pools.
The first event was a $100 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament that attracted 168 players, generating a $13,265 prize pool. Ali Dakhlallah won the event and took home the first-place prize.
In addition to the money, Dakhlallah also won a seat into the Tournament of Champions (TOC) scheduled for Oct. 31, the day after the $1,000 buy-in championship event begins. Two percent of each event's prize pool is withheld to make up the payouts for the TOC. For every 50 players, a seat is given away. That means Dakhlallah, along with the second- and third-place finishers, received a complimentary seat.
