Aces versus kings versus queens – that’s a hand that usually guarantees some fireworks. The massive cooler played out Tuesday on day 2D during the World Series of Poker main event, but in the end, very few chips changed hands.
At one of the PokerGO feature tables, with blinds at 1,000-1,500 with a 1,500 big blind ante, Lynn Phan looked down at A A after Bobby Eichele raised initially to 3,500 with Q Q. She simply called and the action then shifted to Barry Hutter with K K.
Hutter thought a bit and then three-bet to 12,000. Eichele had a stack of about 80,000 with Phan at 259,000, and Hutter at 208,000. Eichele took his time, and eventually put out a four-bet of 29,000.
After considering her options for a while, Phan five-bet to 63,500. Hutter faced a decision with his pocket kings and ultimately made a great fold by letting his hand go.
As players headed away from the table on a break, Eichele continued playing out various scenarios in his head and considering his options. He also ultimately folded his queens, with Phan picking up a pot of 108,500 with two stellar folds ensuring that she didn’t win more.
Hutter only lost about 12,000 in the pot with his kings. Aces, kings, and queens – but no flop. Watch the hand below.
Phan was able to make the money, taking 1,197th place for $17,500. Hutter would ultimately finish in 647th place for $30,000, while Eichele picked up $37,500 for 427th place.
This marked the largest main event field in history with 10,112 players and a $94 million prize pool. The champion will take home $10 million on July 17.
