With nine players remaining from an original field of 410 in the World Series Of Poker Europe’s £1,500 no-limit hold’em event yesterday, only one was destined to take the top prize of ₤144,218.
After some ups and downs, Danish warrior Jesper Hougaard made his way back into the game after starting the day off eighth in chips. With only three left and everything to play for, Hougaard knocked Yevgeniy Timoshenko out in third place, and with his eyes fixed firmly on gold, went head-to-head with hanger-on Fuad Serhan.
The final hand of the night saw Serhan raise to 120,000 on the button, and Hougaard go all in. Serhan made the call confidently sitting on AK, but nothing can be taken for granted in poker, as the AJ of Hougaard hit the nut flush on the flop.
After four long arduous days of play, Hougaard collected £144,218 and another bracelet to add to his collection. His victory means he has become the first person to win a bracelet in both Las Vegas and London during the same World Series. Fuad Serhan collected £89,175 for his admirable runner-up finish.
The next WSOPE event to produce a winner is the £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, which sees its second day play out this afternoon.
