Big Hands and Storylines:
Gigantic pot means Schaedlich no longer has chip lead
Brian Schaedlich, who began the day with 801,000, limped in from under the gun and then called a raise to by Jeff Kimber. The flop came Q-5-3 and after some back-and-forth raises Schaedlich moved all in. Kimber, who began the day with 174,000 chips and had already gotten that up to over 300,000, called with pocket queens for a set. Schaedlich held pocket aces, and didn't catch an ace. After the hand Kimber was up to well over 600,000 chips, while Schaedlich dropped to around 400,000 chips.
Kings Hold For Teng
Andrew Teng raised from under-the-gun and was called by a single player in late position. The flop came out 742 and Teng led out for 7,000. His opponent moved all-in for a total of 39,000. Teng thought for a decent amount of time before calling and showing KK. His opponent sullenly flipped over his cards one at a time: the 8 and 8. The turn and river were the 5 and 4 and Teng’s stack grew to near 350,000.
Elky’s Read Is Right
Four players saw a limped flop and all of them checked the Q22 flop. The turn was the 3. Scott Clements checked, the big blind bet 3,000, Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier and another player called and the trio saw the 10 on the river. Again the big blind bet. The third player folded but Grospellier made the call. The big blind showed KJ for a botched bluff attempt, and Elky’s QJ took down the pot. He now has 140,000.
Jaffray Takes Big Piece of Calhoun
Alan Jaffray was on the button, and after Matthew Calhoun limped from early position, Jaffrey raised to 6600. Calhoun, 18th to start the day in chips with just over 325,000, made the call, and the flop came 1085. Calhoun checked, Jaffray bet 8500, then Calhoun put in a reraise to 17,500. Jaffray called the raise, and together they saw the turn come 4. Calhoun led out for 25,000 and Jaffray called. The river paired the board with the 4 and Calhoun stepped out for 50,000. Jaffray made the call, admitting he was concerned about an overpair. Calhoun showed him the J10, but Jaffray took down the pot of just under 100,000 with A10.
Biebel Running Hot
Peter Biebel, second in chips to begin the day, was in the small blind and saw the table fold to him. He made the call of Chris Bjorin’s big blind, and they saw the flop come J44. Both players checked. The 10 was the turn card and Biebel stabbed with a 2500 bet. Bjorin called. The 2 was the river card and Biebel stepped out for 6000. Bjorin called again, and Biebel showed him 42 for the full house.
Kattamuri Can’t Close
A shortstack raised to 4500 from late position and Baja Kattamuri made the call from the big blind. The flop came AQ2, and Kattamuri then check-called another 5000 from his opponent. The turn brought the 4 and after Kattamuri checked, his opponent bet 15,000, leaving himself just 9000 in chips. Kattamuri made the call, and the J fell on the river. Kattamuri checked again, and his opponent went all-in. Kattamuri made the call and then mucked when his opponent showed AJ for two pair. It was a minor blow for Kattamuri, who began the day fourth overall in chip count.
