Analysis

Rania Nasreddine made history as the first female player to ever make back-to-back European Poker Tour main event final tables. The American followed up her third-place finish in the 2024 EPT Monte Carlo championship with a run to the final four in the big dance at EPT Barcelona. This big hand took place early on during the final day. Nasreddine opened for a min-raise as the second to act preflop at the six-handed table with pocket tens. Boris Kuzmanovic, who had recorded his first career six-figure live tournament score this summer with an eighth-place showing in a $3,000 World Series of Poker event, three-bet with a suited ace-wheel on her direct left. Nasreddine flatted with her pair and the monotone flop brought two overcards. She checked with her third-nut flush draw and called Kuzmanovic’s 2.5 big blind continuation bet. The turn paired the board and Nasreddine checked again. Kuzmanovic opted to check behind. It was likely a tough decision for the Croatian, as there were likely plenty of Q-X and better A-X holdings in Nasreddine’s range that he could be trailing, but there could also be plenty of weaker flush draws that he could benefit from denying equity to. The 10Heart Suit on the end was the money card for Nasreddine, improving her to a full house. She broke with the flow of the hand to this point and led out for just over quarter pot with her boat, likely targeting calls from just the type of holding that Kuzmanovic held in this particular instance. Kuzmanovic took his time with his aces and queens and a ten kicker from the board, but ultimately made the call. He was probably hoping to be shown a missed flush draw, but instead Nasreddine revealed her two tens to drag the pot and surge into second chip position. Kuzmanovic went on to finish sixth for a career-best score of $340,659.
