The headlines at the tail end of 2009 were dominated by the million dollar pots of high-stakes sensation Isiludr1. A year later, after disappearing from the nosebleed scene for quite some time, the hyper-aggressive Swede is back rebuilding his bankroll for more tear-jerking swings.
On Tuesday, the new member of Team PokerStars Pro put in a marathon session of more than 7,000 hands of $25-$50 pot-limit Omaha. Most of his profits came in a six-hour battle with Scott “urnotindangr” Palmer. Isildur1 won more than $175,000 (the equivalent of 35 buy-ins at the level).
Even though Isiludr1 lost recently to Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton in the first installment of the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown, he is ending 2010 on a much better note than he did in 2009. Last December, the high-stakes catalyst lost more than $4 million to Brian Hastings in the most lopsided online battle in poker history.
The true identity of Isildur1 will be revealed in early 2011, putting an end to more than a year of speculation on who the nosebleed phenomenon could be.
While Isildur1 is having a solid end to his year, high-stakes regular Dan “jungleman12” Cates has been consistently dominating the online world for the better part of 2010. Cates is ending the year as the biggest winner on the virtual felt. He is in the black about $5 million, partly thanks to leading Tom “durrrr” Dwan by $500,000 in the Durrrr Challenge.
German limit hold’em specialist IHateJuice has also been one of the biggest winners in 2010. The newest $3,000-$6,000 limit grinder finishes the year up about $2.5 million playing against the likes of Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius in the discipline. Antonius and IHateJuice have engaged in marathon matches in the last few months, with each experiencing million dollar swings in their heads-up duels.

Other big winners in 2010 include Andreas “skjervoy” Torbergsen ($3.5 million), Ivey ($3 million), and Dwan ($3.6 million). The 24-year-old Dwan started the year on fire, winning more than $7 million by early spring, but the end of his 2010 online campaign featured extended downswings.
