On Monday, the New Jersey State Assembly approved a bill that would allow Atlantic City casinos to offer online gambling internationally and to state residents. New Jersey is looking to become the first US state to legalize and regulate online gaming.

The bill, which was passed by the New Jersey Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee in early December, was approved Monday by a 63-11-3 margin in the Assembly and a 34-2 vote in the Senate. The legislation now moves to Governor Chris Christie to be signed into law. If no action is taken within 45 days, Senator Raymond Lesniak’s bill still becomes law.

The legislation authorizes the online offering of games such as poker, blackjack, craps, slots, roulette, baccarat, and pai gow.

A study conducted by the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association (iMEGA) has estimated that a New Jersey intra-state gambling system could raise up to $250 million in revenue and bring in $55 million in taxes, bringing relief to recent revenue declines.
