Italy has finally passed the much-anticipated law opening up cash game poker to players in the market according to egrmagazine.com.

Up until now online poker was only legally playable in tournament format.

Operators offering online cash games face a tax on gross profits of 20 percent and the maximum allowable buy in has been initially set at €250 with a maximum stake of €1,000 per session which, when reached, will require players to reload from their account.

The Italian gaming market, and especially poker, has been seen tremendous upward growth since regulation was introduced. Companies such as bwin have experienced strong revenues which have offset poker weakness elsewhere.
