On Monday, Full Tilt unveiled plans for a new series of live high-roller tournaments called the Onyx Cup. The six-tournament series will feature buy-ins ranging from $100,000 to $300,000 and take place in exotic locations in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Tournament organizers are estimating an overall prize pool of $30 million for the series, which will also feature a leaderboard to determine which player becomes the Onyx Cup Series Champion. That player will get their name engraved on the Onyx Cup Series trophy and will drive away in a brand new luxury sports car.

The series will consist of five preliminary events and will culminate with the $250,000 Grand Finale with $1 million added to the prize pool. The first tournament will take place in Las Vegas on May 11-12, 2011, just weeks before the World Series of Poker kicks off. Team Full Tilt pros John Juanda, Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Erick Lindgren and the red hot Erik Seidel have already expressed their commitment to playing.

Though the buy-ins are huge, anyone with the desire to play can do so by simply showing up with the cash or winning their seat online. Full Tilt will be starting up qualifying tournaments on March 15.

Full Tilt recently conducted an interview about the Onyx Cup Series with Tom Dwan, Erik Seidel, Gus Hansen, Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey. You can view that interview below.
