Sander Berndsen Holds Overall Lead, Roberto Romanello Near The Top

Roberto Romanello continued what has been a hot April for him, sitting among the chip leaders after day 1B of EPT Berlin.Day 1B of the PokerStars EPT Berlin no-limit hold’em main event was more crowded than the previous day of action. After 315 players entered on day 1A, an additional 458 entrants took a seat to play on day 1B. Play came to a close for the second starting day field with only 202 players still alive. Among them was Sander Berndsen, of Holland, who bagged up a tournament leading 242,900 in chips. Day 1A chip leader Cristian Dragomir sits in second place on the overall leaderboard with 205,500 in chips.

But the field is still full of dangerous players eying the championship. The final tally is 773 entrants, of which 353 remain in the hunt. A prize pool of €3,865,000 has been created by the field, with the top 120 finishers getting paid. The winner will take home €825,000.

Notables who did well on day 1B included 2008 WSOP main event champion Peter Eastgate (110,200), and several Team PokerStars Pros such as Johannes Strassmann (132,000), Sebastian Ruthenberg (126,400), Joep van den Bijgaart (120,300) and many others.

Roberto Romanello was also off to a good start, much like he had just days ago when he won the WPT Bratislava championship for €140,685. The Welshman also claimed the EPT Prague main event title for €640,000 this past December. He ended day 1B of EPT Berlin with 152,400 in chips, which is well above the average chip stack of 65,694.
