$1 Million Buy-In Tournament Announced for 2012 World Series of Poker

Event to Award a WSOP Bracelet and Benefit the One Drop Foundation

At a 5 p.m. press conference on Thursday, Caesars and Guy Laliberte of the One Drop charity foundation announced that there will be a $1 million buy-in at the 2012 World Series of Poker. $111,111 of each seven-figure entry fee will go to helping provide safe water to people around the world.

The bracelet-awarding event has a 48-player cap, and according to the press conference, the event already has 15 players committed to ponying up the funds for the largest open buy-in tournament in history. In addition to Laliberte, Phil Ruffin, Bobby Baldwin, Antanas Guoga, Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen, Tom Dawn, Daniel Negreanu, Johnny Chan, and Andy Beal have pledged to play. The rest of the commitments wished to be anonymous at this time.

According to Laliberte, the event will run three days and will pay out $20 million to first if the field reaches its cap. One seat will be awarded via a Caesars’ mega satellite and one through a undetermined promotion.
