Germany yesterday missed the deadline to respond to European Commission over its restrictive gambling reforms.

Poker and gambling companies currently operating there now face a likely delay until spring 2012 before the proposed Interstate treaty is passed and the new licensing regime is introduced.

Elsewhere, Schleswig Holstein, the state which wants to introduce more a more liberal gaming and poker regime has delayed its vote until next month in order to progress discussion further with the other 15 German states.

The Schleswig Holstein proposal is supported by PokerStars.com.

Analysts Daniel Stewart & Co commented, “We see the delay as a positive sign, German politicians admitted that the New Interstate Treaty required a lot of work and that it was still in the process of being finalised. But the delay in our view should be taken as a step in the right direction and buys the German States time to fall in line with EU laws.”

Among those companies exposed to the German market are bwin.party and Playtech, owner of the iPoker network.

Earlier this year bwin.party shares slumped upon news of the new tax regime proposed under the Interstate Treaty.
