Masslive.com reported Thursday that the state Senate voted to approve a gaming bill that would allow for three casinos and a slot parlor.

The vote ended a six-day period of debate and sends the bill toward a final draft. The state House of Representatives and the Senate will work on a version to send to the governor’s desk.

Supporters claim the bill will create jobs and keep much needed tax revenue within the state. “This is about creating more jobs and revenues for the commonwealth,” Sen. Michael R. Knapik said. “The quicker we get to that task, the better off we will be.”

However, opponents of the measure have been persistent. Former Attorney General L. Scott Harshbarger said “it is shameful Beacon Hill clearly hasn’t learned the lessons of its recent past and insists on moving forward with a bill that will only help casino owners, lobbyists and special interests. There is still time to kill this bill and we continue to hope lawmakers and Governor Patrick will see this is clearly a bad bet for Massachusetts.”
