As the action heats up at this year’s World Series of Poker Europe main event, it’s also getting interesting at online betting exchange, Matchbook.com. Tony G has placed a rather large bet on himself to make the money and it looks likely that the Lithuanian is in for a hefty score.
The poker pro is, at time of writing, in the top 20 on the main event leader board so at 5/1 his $20,000 could very soon be turned into $100,000. 64 players will get paid and 280 remain.
Matchbook is offering this service to anyone (apart from Americans) who wants to back a friend, a player, or even themself, like Tony G did, in a major tournament for up to $50,000. After contacting Matchbook via Skype at username: MatchbookOTC, the site will use its network of poker contacts to give the best odds. Matchbook found Tony G odds of 5/1 (+500) and it looks like the first customer to place such a bet is heading towards the “money”, in every sense.
This bet comes shortly after defending champ James Bord stated that an American wouldn’t win the main event, and if one did he would refund all losing bets up to $500 at Matchbook.com.
