Dusk Till Dawn’s Grand Prix V has broken the European land-based record for the most entries in a live tournament. The €50 buy-in event exceeded its guarantee of €100,000 by €4,450 when it attracted the record-breaking total of 2,089 entries – 1,256 of them unique. The unique figures do not however beat the 2009 Boylepoker International Poker Open which attracted 1,440 unique runners.

The player to top the massive field was Australian Michael Webber but not without a fight on his hands. There were seven day 1’s and players were allowed to re-enter into another day 1 if they got knocked out. 364 players survived the starting days and the real battle began with 207 places to be paid.

Nigel Ventre was the chip leader going into the final with more than one third of all the chips in play. The final table lasted five hours and in that time Ventre slipped off his pedestal and finished in third place for €7,509. This left Michael Webber and Sigurd Madsen to fight it out, and after an hour-and-a-half a deal was made; €15,000 each with a little over €3,000 for the winner.

Webber kept the pressure on and soon Madsen had just eight big blinds left. The final hand came when Webber opened the button, Madsen moved all in with AClub Suit 4Club Suit, and Webber called with AHeart Suit JHeart Suit. Webber’s hand held and he took the €18,000 top prize.
