The SuperStar Showdown rematch between Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton is one which poker fans have long been waiting for, and it will finally take place today at 2 p.m. EST (6 p.m. GMT).

Haxton had previously come out on top as Blom’s first challenger, and was ahead in Matchbook.com’s betting market and looking to stay there on Sunday in the rematch, but adding to the drama was a bad storm that would ultimately impede the battle.

Playing from his new home in Malta, Haxton was experiencing the effects of storms which proved to be problematic Internet-wise from the outset. Set to play 2,500 hands against each other at double the previous stakes, it wasn’t long before Haxton’s connection was lost.

With 692 hands completed from a total of 2,500, it was decided that the match be suspended. It just so happened that by this time Haxton was down almost $100,000 to Blom. Haxton had previously been labeled as the favourite by Matchbook.com, but now the odds look different with Blom at 1.35 and Haxton at 3.4.

Haxton explained the situation on Two Plus Two, “I’m really sorry about all this. I know it’s ruining the flow of the match for spectators. To clarify the weather stuff: There was a really bad storm 2 days ago. My internet was completely down for 2 hours and has been a little unstable ever since. I think something between the ISP and my apartment must have been damaged.”

The match resumes today with 1,808 hands remaining and Haxton trailing Blom by $99,886.
