Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Casino The PokerStars European Poker Tour Grand Final returns to Monte Carlo this week after a brief one-year stint in Madrid. The concluding series of the EPT’s eighth season kicked off today with an absolutely massive €100,000 buy-in super high roller eight-max no-limit hold’em event. This will be the highest buy-in event in the EPT’s history, topping the $100,000 buy-in events at the past two PokerStars Caribbean Adventures, as the current value of the euro makes this particular event a $131,390 buy-in in U.S. dollars.

The tournament is also being played as a re-entry event, with registration open for the first four levels and re-entry available until the end of day 1’s eight levels. Before play began there were already 34 confirmed participants, including Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, Phil Ivey, Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates, Daniel Negreanu, Sam Trickett, Patrik Antonius, Scott Seiver, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Vanessa Selbst and Eugene Katchalov.

In addition to this massive tournament, the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Casino is slated to host a total of 37 events. Other highlights include a €25,500 no-limit hold’em eight-max high roller and the €10,600 EPT Grand Final no-limit hold’em main event.

Last year’s Madrid running of this main event drew 683 entrants, building a prizepool that topped $10 million in U.S. dollars. Eventual champion Ivan Freitez took home €1.5 million ($2.2 million) and 2,400 Card Player Player of the Year points.
