International Game Technology is the second company to obtain Nevada Gaming Control Board approval for licensure to manufacture, run and maintain an intrastate online poker site. Bally Technologies received the same approval Wednesday.

Both business-to-business providers now head to the Gaming Commission, which will meet later this month to likely approve the Control Board’s recommendations.

IGT and Bally have jumped to the front of the pack for Nevada online poker. More than 20 other companies have submitted paperwork to regulators.

After licensing, both companies will have their respective technologies tested. Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli has said that this process will dictate how quickly games can be brought to the marketplace. In May, Lipparelli gave a time frame of 7-10 months.

Earlier this year, Nevada passed rules for private testing labs to assist regulators in giving the final OK for real-money play to begin.

IGT and Bally have both been anticipating licensing by building their respective Internet poker capabilities through deals with other gaming companies.

Nevada is the only state in the country where online gaming is legal. Internet poker would be available to residents and visitors.
