Viktor BlomThe third day of the $50,000 buy-in World Series of Poker Players Championship wrapped up early Wednesday morning. The man leading the way with 26 left is Sweden’s Viktor “Isildur1” Blom, who’s gunning for his first WSOP bracelet.

On Tuesday, Daniel Negreanu Tweeted: “A week ago Viktor Blom didn’t know how many cards you get in razz, and now he is among the chip leaders in the $50K.”

Blom, a no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha player, is having a poor year in the online cash games, but has done well in tournaments so far in 2012. He has cashed for about $1.75 million, but could add $1,451,527 to that if he wins the eight-game mix.

The 21-year-old accumulated his stack via a miracle versus Joe Cassidy. On a 10-9-5-A rainbow board in pot-limit Omaha, Blom had his tournament life on the line with A-9-9-2. However, his set of nines was no good against Cassidy’s A-Q-10-10. A fourth nine on the river for Blom sent him to the top of the leader board and left Cassidy with just a handful of chips.

On Blom’s heels in the chip counts are David Oppenheim, Daniel Alaei and David “ODB” Baker, who all have more than one million in chips. Michael Mizrachi, who won the event in 2010, is also still in contention. Phil Hellmuth survived the day, but he sits as a long-shot to capture his 13th bracelet thanks to a super short stack of 28,000.

Hellmuth Tweeted after the night was over: “I’m in my car in the Rio parking lot crying. Blessings all around me, but all I can [say] right now is that ‘I deserved better today…’”

Just 16 players out of the starting field of 108 will make the money. The bubble will burst sometime after play restarts at 2 p.m. local time Wednesday.
