Matthew Salsberg has taken down the season XI Grand Prix de Paris €7,500 buy-in main event for a payday of $515,720, and in doing so prevented heads-up opponent Theo Jorgensen from becoming the first WPT winner to take down two events at the same venue, in this case, the Aviation Club de France.

It was the Danish poker pro versus the TV producer/poker player who were left standing out of an original field of 228, and despite Jorgensen having a stranglehold on the heads up, the producer of Weeds and co-producer of Entourage won two key hands to turn it all around.

The first saw the two all in with ADiamond Suit 5Diamond Suit versus AClub Suit 4Spade Suit and Salsberg hit a four to set him in motion towards gold. Salsberg then leaped out from behind when his ADiamond Suit 10Club Suit hit a diamond flush on the river versus the unfortunate Jorgensen and his AHeart Suit QSpade Suit.

The final hand came soon after and saw Jorgensen’s dreams dashed, but with the consolation of the $341,149 second-place prize. Jorgensen limped with QHeart Suit 10Spade Suit and Salsberg raised to 435,000. Jorgensen then made his final stand moving all in and Salsberg insta-called with pocket queens. The board fell 5Heart Suit 3Club Suit 2Club Suit 4Club Suit 7Spade Suit and Salsburg’s name now goes down in WPT history.
