Frank Fahrenkopf, president and CEO of the American Gaming Association, announced Monday that he is stepping down from his position this summer.

“I have enjoyed my time at the helm of this incredible organization and am proud to have represented an industry that provides tens of millions of men and women with the best entertainment value in the world,” Fahrenkopf said in statement. “It has been a true honor to work with so many passionate and innovative leaders as we have moved the industry forward during the past 17 [and] 1/2 years.”

Fahrenkopf, the former chairman of the Republication National Committee, has been the first and only leader of the AGA since it was formed in 1995.

Fahrenkopf’s successor has not yet been chosen, according to the press release.

During his time with the AGA, he testified in front of federal lawmakers on the topic of Internet gaming. The commercial casino industry is looking to the activity for continued growth. He spoke to Card Player this past December on the need for a federal online poker bill.
