Massachusetts apparently is moving faster than expected on its casino expansion plan.

Around a year from now, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission reportedly will have awarded two licenses for Las Vegas-style casinos in the state, after regulators previously planned on issuing just one in early 2014, according to The Republican.

Approval will go for Western Massachusetts and for the Boston area, with a number of gaming industry heavyweights vying for the opportunity to build.

Additionally, a license for a slots-only gambling joint will reportedly be awarded in the fall, up from initial plans for December.

After the two casinos and one slot-only licenses are awarded, regulators will be tasked with issuing just one more casino OK under a state law which passed in 2011.

The first wave of casinos are reportedly likely to open in 2016.

“Everybody wants us to move faster,” Stephen Crosby, chairman of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, recently told The Republican after a regulatory meeting. “We want to move faster. We want the money to start rolling.”

The state will take in more than $100 million from the first round of licenses.
