In the last few weeks Full Tilt Poker has slipped from the second largest poker website in the world to fourth place as both Party Poker and the iPoker network have overtaken it in terms of cash game players according to PokerScout.

In an attempt to arrest the slide the company has changed marketing tack and now attempts to woo back grinders with the relaunch of its famous Black card loyalty program.

Upon its relaunch last year the site was committed to marketing itself towards recreational players to differentiate itself from sister company PokerStars.

However the steady drop in numbers at the site seems to have prompted a strategic rethink.

In a press release earlier this week the company said, “Black Card members will be able to convert all earned Full Tilt Points to cash instantly at full value, with no earn-off bonus, no play-through requirements. Depending on what and when players play, this can equate to up to 40% instant cash back every week.”

The company is also hoping to poach players from other sites with a VIP amnesty in April. Head of marketing, Sarne Lightman, said, “We understand that players have put many hours, weeks and sometimes months into earning their VIP status on other sites while unable to play on Full Tilt Poker.

“The amnesty will allow them to trial our Edge Rewards and Black Card programs at the equivalent level and see for themselves the superior benefits their play level offers at Full Tilt Poker.”

Time will tell if the new strategy helps Full Tilt regain its place in the online poker website pecking order ahead of PartyPoker and iPoker.
