Ground broke Wednesday in Baltimore, Maryland for the newest Caesars Entertainment property, the Horseshoe Baltimore Casino. The $400 million project is estimated to be 335,000 square feet and will house between 80 and 110 table games.

This will be the fifth casino and the first new property since Maryland voters, approved table games expansion in December.

The ground breaking took place, despite allegations from environmentalists who filed two suits, claiming that Caesars failed to properly cleanup industrial waste.

“We are pleased the court agreed with our position on this matter and look forward to proceeding with the development,” Dave Curley, a spokesman for CBAC Gaming, said.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Caesars CEO Gary Loveman were present at the groundbreaking ceremony and rolled a pair of oversized dice across a craps table to celebrate.

Rawlings-Blake sees the Horseshoe as an opportunity, bringing at least 1,700 casino jobs to the city residents.

Caesars Entertainment has confirmed that there will be a World Series of Poker branded poker room but there is still no word on how big the room will be.

Card Player took a look at the state of poker in Maryland, although currently there is only one poker room open in the state.
