Poker pros Tom Dwan and Gus Hansen didn’t show up on the first day of the main event, deciding to let their starting stacks of 30,000 blind off. When Day 2 rolled around here at noon on Wednesday, the high-stakes pros weren’t in their respective seats once again.
Hansen wasn’t too tardy, and Dwan followed him in about 15 minutes after play started.
Hansen’s stack had blinded down to 17,975, while Dwan’s was at 18,075.
Both high-stakes pros quickly hit the rail after failing to do much with their shorter stacks. Actually, both had about 35 big blinds, but were not, unsurprisingly, content with playing tight and trying to rebuild their stacks.
The reason why they chose to give little attention to the main event was simple.
According to Dwan’s Twitter, big cash games were running in Las Vegas, reportedly $3,000-a-point open-face Chinese poker at Aria. Open-face plays much larger than regular.
The 2013 WSOP wasn’t too kind to either player. Dwan cashes zero times, and Hansen finished in the money just once. They will both presumably return to the overseas locations to continue playing the nosebleed games on Full Tilt and whatever live games are around.
