Minnesota will soon be home to its very own Poker Hall of Fame.

Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Casino officials announced recently that they’re establishing a space “to honor Minnesota poker players and those that have played a key role in the development of poker in the state.”

The initial inductees into the Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame will be unveiled this fall with an induction ceremony to be held Oct. 4 at the Shakopee gaming facility.

“The Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame will celebrate the success of local poker players and recognize those that have positively contributed to the betterment of the game,” Michael Hochman, Canterbury Park’s Senior Director of Casino Operations, said.

The Minnesota Poker Hall of Fame will be governed by a board consisting of industry professionals, poker players and poker media.

According to TheBestPokerPlayer.com, Minneapolis-native Matthew Alexander has the honor of being the biggest winner in poker tournaments held within the state’s borders. He has cashed for $246,000 in Minnesota. He won the 2009 Great Minnesota Freeze Out for $58,000.

Some of the most well-known poker grinders hailing from the state include Lyle Berman, Jim Meehan, Mike Schneider and Everett Carlton.

In the spring of 2012, a bill was enacted to expand poker in the state.
