The Las Vegas cab driver who discovered $300,000 in a brown paper bag that was left behind by a poker pro and decided to return it was tipped $10,000 by the player on Friday, according to reporting from Fox 5 Las Vegas.

The incident happened Monday morning.

The $10,000-tip is a huge upgrade over the $5 Gerardo Gamboa originally received for driving the poker pro — who wished and was granted anonymity despite the story receiving national media attention — from The Cosmopolitan to the Palms Place tower.

According to reports, his employer also gave him a small bonus for turning the money in.

“He was grateful,” Gamboa’s boss said of the poker pro. “Maybe a little more embarrassed than anything. I mean, he left $300,000 in a cab, but he was an awesome guy.”

There have been guesses circulating the poker community as to who the player might be, after reports came out pegging the mystery player’s age at 28. There are several Las Vegas poker players of that age who frequent the Strip for high-stakes mixed games.

As for Gamboa, he told the media that he wasn’t looking for big reward for returning it, a decision which for him was apparently a no-brainer.

“All I wanted to do was just call my dispatcher and return it, and this is the only chance I have to show cab drivers in Las Vegas are not bad people,” Gamboa said.
