The 11th-annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicks off on Sunday, January 5th at the Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, with 39 events taking place over the nine-day festival that runs from January 5th through the 14th.
Over the past decade the PCA has consistently been one of the biggest events on the tournament circuit every year, always making a huge impact on the Card Player Player of the Year race. The winner has finished inside the top ten in the POY race four out of the last six years, with prior champions including the likes of Gus Hansen (2004), Ryan Daut (2007), Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (2008) and Galen Hall (2011).
The PCA awarded five seven-figure paydays last year, starting off with Scott Seiver emerging victorious from a hue field of 59 entries in the $100,000 super high roller to earn $2,003,480. Runner-up David Sands earned more than $1.2 million for his second-place showing. The $10,300 no-limit hold’em main event also paid out two million-plus scores, with champion Dimitar Danchev earning $1,859,000 while runner-up Joel Micka took home $1,190,000. The final seven-figure score of the festival went to Team PokerStars Pro member Vanessa Selbst, who topped a field of 204 entries in the $25,500 no-limit hold’em high roller to earn more than $1.4 million, making her the highest earning female poker player in tournament history. Her career earnings currently exceed $8.2 million.
During this year’s nine-day run a total of 39 separate tournaments will take place, with buy-ins ranging from as low as a $100 hyper-turbo to as high as the $100,000 super high roller no-limit hold’em event which gets underway Sunday, Jan. 5th at noon local time.
Of course, the true centerpiece of the entire series will be the $10,300 no-limit hold’em main event that runs from Jan. 7th – 13th. Other notable events include a $25,500 no-limit hold’em high roller that runs from the 11th through the 13th and a $10,300 six-handed turbo that gives players a last shot at a big score on the festival’s closing day, January 13th.
