Hollywood Casino GrantvillePoker players of all levels from across the globe will have the opportunity to play alongside — or even beat — World Series of Poker champion Chris Moneymaker this spring. Penn National Gaming’s second season of the Hollywood Poker Open (HPO) continues with a 10-day qualifying event at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville, Pennsylvania February 20 – March 2.

Three more HPO regional qualifying events will take place through May, leading up to the June championship event at the M Resort Spa & Casino in Las Vegas. Moneymaker, the accountant-turned poker player and one of the most recognizable faces in the sport ten years after his 2003 World Series of Poker win, has signed on to be the first-ever celebrity ambassador for the Hollywood Poker Open tournament series.

Year two of the tournament is underway on the heels of the inaugural HPO where Penn National Gaming qualified more than 200 players from 21 properties nationwide, all of whom were sent to compete in the championship event this past June at the M. The day of last year’s event saw an additional 400 players register for the tournament, increasing the field to more than 600 players and boosting the prize pool to nearly $1.5 million.

Moneymaker will compete in all four of the remaining regional qualifying events and spend time with players and fans during his time at the properties. All events will feature 10-day qualifying tournaments starting next month, including 31 events between February 20 and March 2 at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in Grantville, Pennsylvania. Qualifiers at St. Louis, Missouri. and Charles Town, West Virginia, will be in March, and Columbus, Ohio will hold the final regional in May. The tournament will again culminate with the championship event at the Forbes Travel Guide Four Star M Resort Spa & Casino in Las Vegas in June 2014.

Events will appeal to a broad audience of seasoned and new players alike, including no limit hold’em, pot-limit Omaha, seniors (age 50 and older) no-limit hold’em events, ladies no-limit hold’em, and others. A variety of turbo and mega satellite events will qualify players looking for alternative ways to enter the regional qualifying main events.

And while Moneymaker may be sporting an HPO patch, he’ll be playing for his own shot at cash, a seat in the Las Vegas finals, and a piece of the championship prize pool just like the rest of the field.

Regional event winners will receive an official HPO trophy, and the player with the highest point total from feature events will receive an HPO prize package valued at $4,000, which includes a $2,500 entry fee into the $500,000 guaranteed HPO Season 2 Championship to be held at the M Resort in Las Vegas June 27-29, 2014 plus $1,500 in expense money.

Located on more than 90 acres of elevated land over other resort-casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, the M Resort, which will be home to the HPO championship event in June, provides remarkable views of the world-famous Vegas skyline. The resort offers guests nearly 400 guest rooms and suites, 92,000 square feet of gaming floor and multiple restaurants and bars with some of the world’s leading chefs at the helm. Other amenities include a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center and a 100,000 square foot events piazza plus exceptional, world-class personal service.
