After back to back week’s of huge international events the live tournament scene turned it’s attention back to the States in the 2014 Card Player Player of the Year race. Here is a look at the events that most influenced the overall standings this past week:
2014 Heartland Poker Tour Colorado Golden Gates $1,650 Main Event
A total of 731 entries were made in the 2014 Heartland Poker Tour Colorado Golden Gates $1,650 no-limit hold’em main event, building a final prize pool of $1,048,110. From that gigantic field there could be only one champion. In the end it was Salt Lake City, Utah’s Doug Milner who emerged victorious.
The 73-year-old retiree earned $230,582 and 912 Player of the Year points for the win, catapulting him into 25th place in the current standings. Milner had to outlast not only a large field, but plenty of big name player’s including Dan Heimiller (8th – $25,679) and Greg Raymer (71st – $3,144).
Runner-up Colink York climbed into 43rd place in the POY rankings as well, earning $142,857 and 760 points for his deep run.
2014 Card Player Poker Tour Foxwoods $1,650 Main Event
Despite some severe winter weather in the area the 2014 Card Player Poker Tour Foxwoods $1,650 no-limit hold’em main event beat it’s $300,000 guarantee by a large margin. A total of 340 entries were made, building a final prize pool of $494,700. The series as a whole featured $700,000 in guarantees over 11 events. Although Event 8, a $300 No-Limit Hold’em $75,000 Guarantee was canceled due to a snow storm, the series still shattered the guarantees with upwards of $1,347,000 paid out over the 10-day run.
Back to the main event. Ronnie Pease defeated Chris Tryba heads-up to capture the title and a $91,347 payday after making a deal heads-up. In addition to the money and the CPPT champion trophy Pease also earned 480 POY points, enough to put him in 101st place in the overall standings. Tryba, who won a WSOP bracelet in 2012, cashed for $91,346 as a result of the deal made heads-up, earning 440 POY points as well.
2014 World Series of Poker Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club Main Event
The 2014 World Series of Poker Circuit Palm Beach Kennel Club main event drew 658 entrants to build a $987,000 prize pool. In the end Brooklyn’s Ruslan Dykshteyn emerged victorious, earning $202,335 and 840 POY points for the win. The upside of all of that is that Dykshteyn climbed to 30th place in the overall POY standings and increased his lifetime live earnings to just shy of $400,000.
Runner-up Vincenet Maglio earned $125,201 and 700 points for his deep run, moving into 51st place in the POY standings as a result.
Other notable finishers in the event include Mukul Pahuja (15th – $15,220), Aaron Massey (12th – $15,220), Josh Arieh (17th – $10,206) and current POY rankings ninth-place resident Jake Schindler (19th – $8,508).
