The $1,100 Card Player Poker Tour Atlantis $125,000 guaranteed main event got underway on Friday afternoon with 65 players showing up to play Day 1A.

Cards got in the air at noon local time and after 10 hour long levels, only 12 remain. Damon Shulenberger bagged the most chips at the day’s end, bagging and tagging 142,100 in chips. Shulenberger quietly amassed the chip lead and then further extended it by winning a few flips late in the day to eliminate a couple of players.

Joining Shulenberger near the top of the leaderboard is Dustin Fox, Joe Wirtz, and Jon Patrick Rhamey with 116,800, 115,400, and 95,500 in chips, respectively.

Brothers Randy and Ron GilDoing their best Mizrachi impression, the Gil brothers Randy and Ron both made it through the day. Ron started off the day strong and shot to the top of the chip counts after making quads and eliminating a player in the process. He leveled off as the day went along and finished the day with 76,600 in chips. Randy had more of a steady day with fewer ups-and-downs and finished the day with 54,600.

Not everybody was fortunate enough to make it through the day though. CPPT Foxwoods Main Event Champion Ron Pease fired two bullets at this event and found himself eliminated in the middle of the day.

Pease wasn’t the only former CPPT champion unable to survive the day. John Miner won this event last year after defeating Jerry Morrell heads-up. Both Miner and Morrell played Day 1A and neither survived.

Some other notable players who were unable to survive the day were Candace Collins, Mike Borovetz, and Shawn Daniels.

The remaining 12 players have the option to play Day 1B on Saturday at noon local time and will be able to take their best stack to the final day. The final day gets underway on Sunday at 1 pm and they will play down to a winner.
