The next winner on the Card Player Poker Tour will emerge from the tables at bestbet Jacksonville, bringing to a close another successful stop on the tour’s second season.

Four full days of action-packed poker in the form of the $1,500 no-limit hold’em $300,000 guarantee main event will begin at 12 pm EST May 9 and continue until one lucky player has withstood all the rest on May 12. The main event will feature a live blog of hand-for-hand updates and action from the tournament floor and the final table will be live-streamed in its entirety on May 12.

The 12-tournament series started off with a bang May 1 with a $350 no-limit hold’em $100,000 guarantee tournament, which drew nearly 500 hopefuls ready and eager to take home a piece of what turned out to be a nearly $150,000 prize pool.

Matthew OswaltMatthew Oswalt would emerge victorious with the first trophy of the series and a $34,086 payday. Oswalt bubbled the World Poker Tour main event final table last fall and is no stranger to final tables and big cashes at the cardroom, however the trophy from event no. 1 was the St. Augustine player’s first after playing at bestbet for more than two years. But a single trophy would prove to not be enough for Oswalt. He went on to win event no. 6: $350 no-limit hold’em with $100 bounties for $3,380, making his run at bestbet quite profitable.

Kristin Budreck, another bestbet regular who has been on the scene for about nine years, also emerged victorious early on in the series. Budreck took down event no. 2: $200 all-in or fold, earning $1,235 and brought home an additional $500 in the form of $50 bounties for eliminating a total of ten players from the tournament. Budreck’s long-time partner Eddie Mroczkowski – also a well-known face at bestbet – won the inaugural all-in or fold tournament back in 2012.

Ed Russ, a regular in the Omaha cash games, stayed true to form and took down the only Omaha event of the series, event no. 3: $240 limit Omaha 8eight-or-better for $2,132. Keeping up with the trend, bestbet familiar face Shawn Sorgie won event no. 4: $240 no-limit hold’em for a $4,900 pay day. Norbert Kara and Brian Fortelka also joined the winners, taking down event no. 5: $200 no-limit hold’em and event no. 7: $340 no-limit hold’em with $100 bounties respectively.

Kristin BudreckWith a runner-up finish against Sorgi and a 47th place finish in event no. 1, Mroczkowski now sits in a seven-way tie with most cashes on the season at four and a four-way tie for most final tables at three. Sorgi is also among the seven players to cash four times during Season II. Oswalt brought the number of two-time champions on the Season to four, joining Jesus Muniz, Michael Vonada and Daniel Chamberlain on leaderboard for most titles.

The May tournament series is the sixth stop on Season II of the CPPT and is the second stop at Jacksonville. Back in August, Harvey Vandeven took home more than $74,000 when he won the main event after an even chop with Timothy Miles.

The eventual winner of the main event will not only join Vandeven on the list of Season II champions, but will soon sit among the ranks of Palm Beach Kennel club winner John McNulty, Foxwoods champion Ronnie Pease and Irish Open winner Patrick Clarke.
