Sri Lanka Again Reverses Position On Casinos

Government Says Casinos Are OK On Certain Condition

It appears Sri Lanka can’t really make up its mind about casinos.

In December of last year, the country said OK to a few casino projects, one of which is from Australian billionaire James Packer. However, late last month the government said that it wouldn’t allow gambling to be a component of the developments. Just last week it was reported by Reuters that the Sri Lankan government isn’t opposing casinos anymore.

The report said that the country is OK with Packer’s $400 million plan if it is operated using an existing license held by a local partner.

Same goes for the other potential developers.

Packer is the owner of Australia’s Crown Resorts Ltd.

Up to five casinos could be built in the country.
