The 2013 inaugural running of the WSOP Millionaire Maker event was a huge success, drawing a field of 6,343, but that tournament paled in comparison to this year’s 7,977 players, which makes up the second largest live tournament in poker history.
The tournament, which has only been outdone by the 2006 WSOP main event, created a mad house at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino.
What made the tournament even more impressive was the fact that all of the action began on the same day. The first flight of the tournament saw 4,722 players kick things off at 11 a.m. The second flight of 3,255 was even forced into a later start because of a table shortage.
A total of 819 players made the money, collecting at least $2,692. The top 12 players all earned at least six-figure paydays and the winner will take home a whopping $1,319,587.
Here’s a look at the five biggest live poker tournaments of all time.
