M Resort Spa and CasinoThe Hollywood Poker Open main event championship kicks off Friday at noon at the M Resort Spa and Casino in Las Vegas. The $2,500 buy-in event features a $500,000 guarantee, but if 2013’s prize pool of $1,423,062 is any indication, that number is expected to be shattered.

Last year, Ana Marquez defeated a field of 631 players en route to pocketing the $320,189 first-place prize. The final table was stacked with notables such as Ben Palmer, Max Greenwood, Sam Stein, Ramzi Jelassi, Kory Kilpatrick and Ryan Tepen.

The three-day main event will give players a starting stack of 25,000 with blinds levels of 60 minutes.

When asked why he chose to be an ambassador for the Hollwood Poker Open, 2003 World Series of Poker main event champion Chris Moneymaker explained that it was all about the tournament’s value.

“The structure is amazing and the juice is lower than other events around town,” said Moneymaker. “The Hollywood Poker Open really knows how to take care of the players. They came to me with the details of the tournament and it was a no brainer for me. This was something I was more than happy to be a part of and support.”

Those who want to get into the event for cheap can still take part in a 10 a.m. $235 satellite the day of the main event.

On Saturday, June 28, the HPO will host an $1,800 pot-limit Omaha tournament and a $235 no-limit hold’em tournament. On Sunday, June 29, the series will conclude with the main event final table and a $300 deep stack no-limit hold’em event.

The HPO series is concluding season 2 with the championship event in Las Vegas, but previous stops included Lawrenceburg, Tunica, Grantville, St. Louis, Charles Town and Columbus.
