Online Sports Book To Launch Bitcoin Poker

A leading Bitcoin online sports book will this week launch a poker client that will use the digital currency.

Nitrogen Sports, which is based in Costa Rica, is joining the likes of Seals with Clubs, Silk Poker, Betcoin Poker, Switch Poker, WinPoker, among others, in allowing poker players to use Bitcoins to fund their accounts.

“It’s clear to us that online gambling would hugely benefit from embracing Bitcoin, the biggest benefits being instant transactions, low transaction costs, anonymity, and security. Extending those benefits to a community of poker players was an easy decision for us,” Nitrogen Sports said in a press release posted to its website.

The use of Bitcoins for online gambling hasn’t been without problems.

Last month, Bitcoin payment processor Coinbase moved to close the accounts of both U.S. and foreign customers seeking to transfer Bitcoins from gambling sites, Newsweek reported.

Bitcoins are slowly making their presence felt in Las Vegas. In July, the Strip got its first Bitcoin ATM, which can convert cash into Bitcoins and vice versa.

Right now, Bitcoins can’t be used for gambling on casino floors in the Silver State.
