Yahoo! announced that as of Dec. 31 its free-play poker platform will be no more.

“As of Dec. 31, 2014, Yahoo Games will no longer offer the Yahoo Classic Games
including Yahoo Poker, Yahoo Pool and Yahoo Bingo on web or mobile devices,” the firm wrote on its website.

It was a perplexing announcement because, as Forbes pointed out, just a month ago Yahoo! began heavily advertising its poker game in conjunction with fantasy football.

Yahoo! told Forbes that poker was being shut down as part of “efforts to streamline our product offerings and focus our energy and resources on developing for Yahoo’s core experiences.”

According to the report, the online giant may roll out a new poker product in the future.

More than three million people play poker via Yahoo.com.
