New Jersey online poker sites closed out 2014 on a strong note after struggling late in the year.
According to figures released this week from state gaming regulators, current online gaming sites in Atlantic City reported Internet gaming win of $10.7 million in December compared to $6.6 million in December 2013, reflecting a very strong increase of 63.6 percent.
New Jersey’s online gaming industry launched in November 2013, so it’s still very young.
A total of $2,059,213 of the $10.7 million came from online poker, while $8,676,905 came from the other authorized casino games. The online poker revenue was the best the state had seen since September (2014) and the first month-over-month increase since July-August.
November’s online poker figure was the lowest ever for the Garden State.
The high for online poker of nearly $3.5 million was in January 2014.
Online poker in New Jersey will be aided in 2015 by some financial institutions easing up on payment processing restrictions for online gaming sites. Also, WSOP and 888 recently announced that they will be experimenting with combining their player pools in order to increase liquidity.
Just two brick-and-mortar casino operators—Caesars and Borgata—are generating online poker revenue. There are four distinct poker sites between the two operators.
Late last year, poker sites from Betfair and Ultimate Gaming closed their virtual doors in New Jersey due to lackluster traffic.
