Finnish poker pro Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies has began his 2015 online poker campagin by winning $258,347, according to data from HighstakesDB.
Sahamies has so far played nearly 6,400 hands this month. The poker pro won nearly $270,000 in 2014, between his accounts on Full Tilt and PokerStars.
He’s up roughly $2.4 million lifetime playing Internet poker, though in recent years his winnings have been only a fraction of what he was able to accumulate during the height of the high-stakes online poker action.
Other big winners to start 2015 include Alex “PostFlopAction” Kostritsyn ($465,000) and Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky ($288,000). The former hails from Russia, and the latter is a New Hampshire native.
On the flip side, poker pros Phil “Polarizing” Ivey and Viktor “Isildur1” Blom have started the year off on the wrong foot. Ivey is down about $168,000, while Blom is already in the hole nearly $108,000. Both had horrendous 2014 campaigns. An account by the name “CoeJassidy”, which is a play off the name of poker pro Joe Cassidy, is leading the way with $255,000 in losses so far.
So far, Only one pot this year has broken the $100,000 threshold.
CoeJassidy was able to get his stack in on the turn in a $300-$600 pot-limit Omaha hand against “Trueteller” drawing dead. Trueteller had the Q J 10 9 on a board reading Q Q 9 5. CoeJassidy held the A J 10 9.
Trueteller scooped the entire $110,000.
