In this Card Player weekly feature we look to provide our readers with a guide to some of the biggest poker events taking place in their area for the upcoming week. Check out all the tournament action set to go down in your own backyard from March 9th through the 15th. Head to our tournament database for more information.
CALIFORNIA
- The 2015 WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star (Mar 08, ‘15 – Mar 13, ’15) The Bay 101 Casino in San Jose, California is the next stop on the World Poker Tour’s California Swing of events, highlighted by the $7,500 World Poker Tour Shooting Star main event begins on March 9th and runs until the 13th, with days 1A and 1B beginning at 11:00 AM local time on the 9th and 10th. The unique tournament is the only WPT main event to have bounties, but is not a bounty tournament in the typical sense. Each table starts with at least one “Shooting Star,” a famous professional poker player with a bounty on their head. If someone busts a Shooting Star, they are rewarded with $2,500 and an autographed bounty t-shirt. Also unique to this event is the $10,000 bonus paid to the end-of-day chip leaders on the first two starting days.
- The 2015 WPT Rolling Thunder (Mar 14, ‘15 – Mar 18, ’15) The WPT California Swing continues after the Bay 101 wraps with it’s third and final stop at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, CA. The WPT Rolling Thunder $3,500 no-limit hold’em main event kicks off with the first of two starting days at noon on March 14th.
- The 2015 Winnin’ O’ the Green Series (Mar 06, ‘15 – Apr 07, ’15) The Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, CA launched into it’s 35-event Winnin’ O’ the Green series last week. The series will run the duration of this month, but the highlight this week is the WSOP Circuit $1,675 no-limit hold’em main event. The tournament features two starting days, each beginning at noon on Mar. 14th and 15th.
MIDWEST
- The 2015 Chicago Poker Classic (Mar 05, ‘15 – Mar 16, ’15) The Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, IN has hosted plenty of big tournament series in recent years and is set to do so again with the 10-event Chicago Poker Classic, which kicked off last week. The highlight of the next seven days is the marquee $1 million guaranteed prize pool $2,000 no-limit hold’em main event, which gets underway with the first of two starting days beginning at noon on Mar. 13th.
NEVADA
- The CPPT III Wynn Las Vegas (Feb 25, ‘15 – Mar 18, ’15) The Card Player Poker Tour has returned for the second time to the Wynn Las Vegas for an action-packed 14-event poker tournament series. Every event of the 2015 CPPT Wynn Las Vegas sports a guaranteed prize pool, with this week’s biggest being a $150,000 guaranteed $600 buy-in no-limit hold’em event that begins with the first of two starting days at noon on March 12th.
- The 2015 Race for the Clover (Mar 14, ‘15 – Mar 22, ’15) The Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas has a unique series getting underway this week. The poker room will host two $345 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournaments each day, beginning at 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM respectively, from March 14th through the 21st. The winners of each of these events will be entered into a 16-person heads-up championship with a $10,000 prize pool added by the casino. The heads-up tournament will take place on Sunday, March 22nd.
NORTHEAST
- The 2015 Foxwoods Poker Classic (Mar 14, ‘15 – Mar 30, ’15) The Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT is about to kick off it’s spring Foxwoods Poker Classic festival this week, starting with a huge $500,000 guaranteed $600 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. The tournament will feature three starting days, each beginning at 11:00 AM on Mar. 14 – 16.
- The 2015 $1 Million Live! Poker Classic (Mar 09, ’15 – Mar 23, ’15)Beginning Monday, Mar. 9, the Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills will be hosting the $1 Million Live! Poker Classic, a 15-event series that boasts a seven-figure guarantee. The highlight of the series is the $2,200 no-limit hold’em championship event, which begins Mar. 21 and features a $300,000 guarantee. In addition to no-limit hold’em, other events on the schedule include pot-limit Omaha, pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better, bounty, turbo, survivor and a senior’s event.
- The 2015 Poker Player’s Series (Mar 13, ‘15 – Mar 30, ’15) The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is hosting a number of events over the next few weekends, beginning with a $560 no-limit hold’em event that features two starting days beginning at 11:00 AM on Mar. 13th and 14th.
FLORIDA

The coming days will see the centerpiece of the whole affair, the $200,00 guaranteed $1,100 no-limit hold’em main event, get underway. The tournament features two starting days, each beginning at 2:00 PM local time on Mar. 13th and 14th.
- The 2015 Battle at the Beach (Mar 11, ‘15 – Mar 31, ’15) The Isle Casino in Pompano Beach, FL launches into an 18-event tournament series this week, highlighted in the early going by a $150,000 guaranteed $175 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. The tournament has eight starting flights to choose from, with 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM start times running from Mar. 11th through the 14th.
