Poker pro Bryan Devonshire had the opportunity two weekends ago to throw out the first pitch in a Rockies game in Denver. The veteran grinder was offered a chance to perform the honors before the Rockies took on the Cubs thanks to an offer from daily fantasy sports site DraftKings.
Lately, there has been an increase in partnerships between daily fantasy sports sites and professional sports franchises. USA Today recently called it “escalating daily fantasy integration.” DraftKings reportedly has an exclusive partnership with Major League Baseball.
Devonshire told Card Player that it was a “pretty cool experience,” even though he is a diehard San Francisco Giants fan. Devonshire can be seen in poker tournaments sporting a Giants ball cap. Devonshire has more than $2.7 million in career poker tournament earnings.
As for his pitching capabilities, Devonshire said that he wasn’t allowed to throw off the mound for his first pitch. However, he did deliver a solid knuckle ball in the strike zone from the infield grass.
Devonshire told ESPN during the 2011 WSOP main event about his time playing baseball competitively as a teen. He said he was once scouted by the Cleveland Indians.
