A micro-stakes card game at a senior center in Muncie, Indiana has ceased its tradition of offering prizes such as toilet paper and fruit after state gaming regulators contacted them last week and said the activity is gambling, according to reporting from the AP.

The only reason state officials became aware of the euchre game was because someone, perhaps a player who had fallen short of the TP several times, had called and filed a complaint.

The absurd situation actually got the attention of Gov. Mike Pence and it irked him because “common sense” wasn’t being used. Now, gaming officials have come out publicly to say that they never intended to take any action against the game. Officials said that the email sent to the senior center essentially amounted to a heads-up about state gambling rules, according to the report.

Still, it spooked the senior center and now it isn’t allowing prizes anymore.

Judy Elton, director of the Delaware County Senior Citizens Center, said that seniors are “outraged.” The senior center did take a cut from each entry fee for the euchre games. The senior center reportedly is worried about the loss of revenue equal to about $10 per hour.
