The 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $5,250 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event is set to begin at noon on Saturday, August 15th. This year the tournament sports a $5 million guarantee and for the first time in it’s young history will not allow re-entries, instead adopting a more traditional freezeout format. Along those lines, this year there will also not be multiple starting flights.

The Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida made waves in 2013 with the first ever running of this tournament. The $10 million dollar guaranteed main event drew a huge field of 2,384 entrants to easily surpass the promised mark, building a total prizepool of $11.92 million in the end. Eventual champ Blair Hinkle took home $1,745,245 that year to close out the wildly successful inaugural running.

Defending champion Daniel ColmanIn 2014 they returned with the same format and $10 million guarantee, but the second time around they fell short and ended up with a $2.5 million overlay. 2014 Card Player Player of the Year Daniel Colman emerged victorious in that event for $1,446,710.

After missing the guarantee last year the event’s organizers opted to make the changes to the guarantee and the freezout format for 2015. Also new this year is television coverage by CBS Sports Network, set to air early in 2016.

This year the final tables of the main event, the $1 million guaranteed $25,400 high roller, the $1 million guaranteed $2,650 side event, and the $500,000 guaranteed $1,100 side event will all be live streamed simultaneously on Tuesday, August 18. 14-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth will be doing commentary for all four events.

“The 2015 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open will elevate the poker experience to a new level. The Championship single-entry structure will provide a unique opportunity for players to compete for their share of the $5 million guarantee. Plus, the chance to be part of the finale that showcases four final tables at the same time heightens the energy and excitement of this year’s series,” said General Manager of Poker Operations for Seminole Gaming Larry Frank.

Matt Savage, Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open tournament consultant also gave his thoughts on the changes to the event in 2015. “This year’s Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship is an event not to be missed. With no reentry, the format becomes a level playing field for poker pros, satellite winners, and recreational players alike. The post-lim events carrying massive guarantees ensure that even if a player busts out of the Championship event, there are more ways to make a huge score.”
